In a job search? Do you need a coach?

Greetings and Good Morning wishes to you 🙂

This is an interesting discussion about why you should or shouldn’t get a coach during your job search or career transition. Take a peak…

http://www.jibberjobber.com/blog/2009/02/11/job-search-tip-get-a-coach-someone-who-will-hold-you-accountable/

You all know what my answer is 🙂

Yes! Working with a coach will help you during this period of transition – however brief disclaimer.. see my other post labelled career coach – about choosing the right coach for you and ensuring they have experience…

Working with a career coach will increase the speed that you will see results than if you were working alone. Also, a coach will hold you accountable to your goals. There is a lot going on during a job search ( eg. fear, family and personal pressure, ideas, big dreams, changing expectations, rejections, hopes, finances) and staying focused can be challenging.

You are well aware of these complexities facing you – as you are in it right now… having to deal with the emotional rollercoaster of navigating the responses from employers can be pretty detrimental to your ego… whew so much!..

So yes, having an experienced, supportive coach to debrief with once per week would help you move faster to your goal and keep you to task, avoiding many of the highs and lows.

A good thing to remember when job searching – is that this period in your life is temporary – you will work again – it is just a matter of time.

When there is love things flow!

When there is love things flow!

“When there is love things flow.”
~ Margarita Rodriguez President of the FOCO FOUNDATION

How true is this statement!! Please read on…

I have been a volunteer at a school named Cafe con Leche here in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for over a year and am regularly inspired by all of the children, volunteers, teachers, parents and especially the endless energy of the Director of the school, named Marisol, who started the whole program in 1990.

Despite the several challenges that exist, there is so much love, joy and hope bubbling in this little school; I am commited to increasing the learning and growth opportunities for these children and spend a lot of time thinking of more ways that I can help.

So, I began chatting with the foundation’s Director, Margarita Rodriguez about how to generate more donations flowing to the school but was running into some road blocks about collecting donations from abroad and government issuing about receipts and administrative and legal issues… ugh!

Then last week, I received an email from Margarita saying – “When there is love things flow” and then all of a sudden I realized that the FOCO Foundation needs a website! And I can promote it and all of their amazing projects, helping to raise awareness and to increase international donations – all by using my new skills in social networking and article writing!! Who knew!

So late Friday afternoon, I put this out to the universe ( in the way of Twitter and Facebook ) and within 2 hours – I had three website developers interested in the project!!

The Law of Attraction at work! All is possible when you are operating out of a place of love! Stay tuned for more details!

Manifest! Condensed Exercises

For those of us who know what we want but aren’t seeing it yet in our lives – try these super condensed exercises:

1. Imagine yourself one year from now having all that you want. Close your eyes and really feel how good it feels to be there in your ideal world.

2. Write down exactly what and who is in your life – specifically explain your ideal world using your senses and get it out of your head and onto paper. Review this ideal world daily – feeling gratitude for all that you have!

3. Make choices today that will move you closer to actualizing your dreams. Make decisions that feel good.

Want to Volunteer? How to get started…

Someone recently asked me about how to get started volunteering with children, this is my response:

“I am a huge advocate of writing things down! So that would be the first place I would start is to grab a notebook and pen.

Clarify and create an intention:

  • Ask yourself what do I want to achieve by helping children?
  • What am I passionate about?
  • What type of children’s programs have I been interested in the past?
  • When I read stories in the paper – what topics touch my heart?
  • Close your eyes and imagine yourself helping children – what are you doing? Describe what you are doing and the way it feels helping…

Research! Look up and begin researching existing programs that are consistent with your vision. Visit their websites and determine which ones are interesting or a good fit for you, consider volunteering.

Register with the Volunteer action centres in your city – these are matching services to help you get connected with not for profit organizations.

Good Luck! and Congratulations – volunteering can be a wonderful rich experience!!”

Mindfully Exercise Right Through Stress

Mindfully Exercise Right Through Stress

No matter what the challenges are that you are facing in your life, regular exercise moves you through stressful times with greater clarity, increased energy and a more positive outlook. And to benefit even more from exercise – get mindful.

Exercise can be a form of meditation. And if you aren’t familiar with meditation, read here for all of the benefits –there truly are so many!
So how can you meditate and get a great work out? Be mindful. Be conscious and in the moment.
Music is a great motivational tool but it can also be a distraction. Flipping through a magazine with music blaring in your ears on an elliptical will never compare to the afterglow of a workout when you approach exercise mindfully. So, instead, from time to time take off the headphones, put down the magazine and while you exercise, listen to your breath and feel your body move.

  • Listen to the sound and feeling of your breath as you inhale and exhale. Breathe in and imagine a white light spreading through you reaching all areas in your body.
  • Imagine your body glowing and focus on all of the tingling and sensations within you. Feel the connectedness, peace and health within your body.
  • Consciously feel the sensation of your muscles as they lengthen. Feel the strength and movement of your body and be grateful.
When we are going through difficult times, it is easy to react mindlessly to the pressure of a situation by complaining, blaming or criticizing, either ourselves or other people. We may have more aches and pains and our shoulders tighten in response to the stress.

Stress can bring feelings of hopelessness and despair and it is during these stressful times that we often quit our exercise routines, choosing to grab fast food and overindulging in things that eventually make us feel bad.

Finding time in our everyday lives to practice self-care is vitally important; especially when we are under stress. If we are to restore harmony in our lives, overcoming obstacles and pursue our potential, we must look after our minds and our bodies.

Mindful exercise helps keep your energy flowing cleanly through your body. By listening to our breath we are calming the mind’s chatter and allowing energy to flow through us as we are present in each moment. And by focusing and being grateful for our body’s strength and movement we gain a deeper appreciation of ourselves.

Armed with all of these positive elements of mindful exercise we are then able to approach the world from a place of clarity and calmness – a place where stress loses its power.
Wishing you the best today,
