Want to be happy? Let go of your picture of perfection!

Want to be happy? Let go of your picture of perfection!

We all strive to create more happiness, love and prosperity in our lives. We want good friends, secure meaningful jobs and healthy loving families AND we have an idea of what this “should” look like.

It is positive and helpful to have goals and clarity about what we want in life, the problem is that when we don’t get what we think we “should” have, we get angry, disappointed, obsessed, resentful, frustrated, depressed…!! When we are stuck, there is no flow of abundance that pours into life only hurdles to overcome, problems to solve with expensive vacations in between.

What picture of perfection do you have in your mind? Are you feeling stuck, disappointed, frustrated?

I worked hard at creating my picture of perfection and mostly succeeded (or so I thought), yet I felt trapped, sad, and lonely most of the time. I often looked out of the grand foyer windows in my suburban home wishing I was somewhere else.

There is a quote that became my mantra about Truth, by Charles Haanel:

“I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.”

I then added at the end “I am exactly where I am meant to be.” This mantra created a sense of acceptance, peace and trust in the direction of my path. I still repeat this often to myself throughout the day, feeling the truth of each of these words in my life. Soon, I began to let go of my rigid picture of perfection, letting go of the fear of “keeping it all together” and see past it all to the beauty and love surrounding me.

Ironically, if you notice, the second quality in the mantra is “I am… perfect”. What I have now come to embrace about the idea of perfection is that we are all created without error, there were no mistakes made when we were created. We are all perfectly created.

“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” ~ Author Unknown

I really like this quote when we understand that the only “imperfections” that exist are from the inconsistencies that are between our pictures of perfection and the truth that lies in nature.

Make it a Summer of Self-Discovery!

Make it a Summer of Self-Discovery!

I can’t believe it is the beginning of June! Summer is just around the corner and I bet your weekends are filling up quickly! Likely with weddings, barbeques and reunions…

Have you booked in any time for yourself?

Remember back to January when we were all creating our New Year’s Resolutions, do you remember what yours were? Pull out your list or mentally check off what you have completed.

The summer is a great time to review our goals, reflect on our past experiences and plan for the future. Work tends to be a little slower and we have more time outside to be inspired by nature and rest in the moment. Things are a little sweeter.

“At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.” ~ Lao Tzu

This quote is so true, we just need to listen and make the commitment to ourselves to slow down and choose to do what makes us happy.

Activity: Grab a pen and paper and plan the perfect date for yourself.

Where would you love to be taken? How would you like to feel? Would you love to be given flowers or a special gift? Would you like to sit in a garden or visit a museum or an amusment park?

Are there places that you haven’t visited in a long time that used to bring you joy? Like the library, theatre, a local cafe, restuarant or a neighbouring town?

Whatever you imagined for yourself, carve out a time in your schedule and go! If you can, go alone!

I personally like going on these excursions with my journal 🙂 The time “away” feels like an adventure, even if I am just down the street taking myself out to lunch. I meet interesting people and I feel such a special appreciation and connection to myself. It is fun! Try it and share with me your experiences! 🙂

Is something missing? Are you searching for more meaning?

Is something missing? Are you searching for more meaning?

Is something missing? Are you searching for more meaning?

Does this sound like you?

At the end of the day, you sink into the couch mindlessly exhausted by the day’s activities, you think, “Certainly there has to be more than this but my goodness, I am too tired to think!”

You work so hard and are constantly being pulled between work and family responsibilities often feeling guilty for not giving it your all here or there. Your career has plateaued; this isn’t the life you dreamed about.

You do everything right but nothing ever feels right. You manage to fit in a manicure or a hot bath with a glass of red wine or white 🙂 and wish that this luxurious time could last forever. But it doesn’t and you are off racing again responding to what is needed from you.

You are searching for more, more time, more meaning, more something – just different from what you have. You dream about changing your job and being happy – one day… maybe tomorrow, maybe when the kids are older, maybe when I have more money. Does this sound like you?

I heard something the other day that was so true by John Assaraf: Knowledge is not power. Application of Knowledge is Power.

So if you are like most of us who have a few (or many) inspirational self-help books laying around, grab one and begin to really work through it. Apply the information that really resonates with you in your life.

Create rituals each day that reinforce these principles, like journal writing, meditation, visualization, affirmations especially in the morning and evening. If you need a book or want more inspiration, I have created a workbook called Follow Your Heart.

Leaving you with a little inspiration~

How do you create and use positive affirmations?

How do you create and use positive affirmations?

I have used positive affirmations for many years and have witnessed amazing shifts in my life! I work with my clients on developing their own affirmations to use throughout the day to let go of negativity and to create a higher vibration in their lives.
What is an affirmation and how do you use one?

I believe that everyone benefits from having their own coach and I have been studying the Law of Attraction through Jack Canfield’s program for a few months now and today he tweeted a list about Affirmations – so here it is, by Jack Canfield:

#1 An affirmation is a positive statement affirming your being in the state of having already accomplished the goal.

#2 So many affirmations out there. Why not create your own? Start with the words “I am” and remember to use present tense.

#3 Remember, affirmations CHANGE things. They Release the Brakes (and the breaks) and change your limiting beliefs.

#4 Remember to state affirmations in the positive. Affirm what you WANT, not what you don’t want.

#5 Affirmations program your subconscious mind.

#6 Keep your affirmations brief and repeat it often! Carry it in your pocket. Post-it to your steering wheel. Send it to your own voice mail.

#7 The Law of Attraction is INTENSIFIED by affirmations.

#8 Include an action word for your affirmations (ending in ing).

#9 Include at least one DYNAMIC emotion or feeling word in your affirmations.

#10 Use affirmations to greatly accelerate your success.

#11 Make affirmations for YOURSELF (not others).

#12 Use affirmations to create the life you DREAM of.

4 Steps to Greater Career Satisfaction!

4 Steps to Greater Career Satisfaction!

Do you love your job?
Follow these 4 steps to greater career satisfaction

Good Morning! Statistically Tuesdays are one of the happiest work days in the week.

Are you happy today at your job?

I hope so but if not, the best advice I can give is to look around and see what you like about your job, what is going well and recognize all the perks you do have and if you can’t find any, start by being grateful for having a job.

We have all heard loads about the Law of Attraction and one of the principles says~ What you focus on expands.

So if you are unhappy and unsatisfied with your job there is a way to improve the situation. Activity:

Step 1: Get a piece of paper and write your thoughts on these questions: What is going right? What do you like about your job? What are you good at?

If you are blocked, consider that there must be something or else or you wouldn’t have stayed so long. Why have you stayed? Write down all of that comes up for you.

Step 2: Now write down all of the things you wish you could be doing. If you could spend your time doing anything you want, what will that be? Now consider how can you bridge this gap? Be creative, consider volunteer positions, eduction, certificates, lessons, people to meet, new routines to incorporate, memberships to pursue…

Step 3: Research! Set up informational interviews with companies you want to work with, local college and university websites and talk to academic advisors, visit the volunteer action centres and art centres, read newspapers, talk to people about what you want and what you are looking for – network and get involved!

Tony Robbins said that we tend to overestimate what we can do in one year and underestimate what we can achieve in ten.

Step 4: Create a 1, 5, and 10 year plan.

We always say, time flies therefore: a 3 year degree taken at a rate of one or two courses part time will also fly by, as will volunteering or joining a group to get certain skills and meet certain people; look at how that investment will pay off and if it involves a career change how happy you will be!

If we can avoid thinking of all of the reasons why not to do something and instead focus on what we want and what we already have, our career decisions would become a lot more clear and easier to make.

“Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.” ~ Buddha
