How can we help the helpless? See them

How can we help the helpless? See them

Namaste is one of the most beautiful terms I have ever heard. I love the sound and the flow of the greeting but it is the meaning behind it and the sacred feeling of saying Namaste that touches me deeply each time I use it in my life when addressing people.

The loose meaning of Namaste is “the soul in me sees the soul in you.”

Too often we rush through our lives, avoiding conversations, ignoring people and being distracted with our own inner talk to realize the clerk holding the door open for us, the cashier ringing us through or even our children wanting to share a tidbit of information.

When was the last time you looked into the eyes of a homeless man and saw the man? Or a stray animal and wondered where they came from and where they are going for the night?

Desensitization is one way to deal with the poverty and sickness around us another is through love and empathy. I am not advocating petting stray dogs as it may not be safe or befriending every person on the street inviting them into your home.

What I am advocating is to slow down, be conscious and see people, see animals. Look them in the eye, recognize their humanity and in the quiet moment during the exchange acknowledge the beauty and truth of that single moment: that we are all connected.

Namaste.

Share Your Dreams!

Share Your Dreams!

“If you can imagine it you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it.”

Ward, William Arthur

Good Afternoon!! Last week I wrote about ensuring that your goals are yours and not what you think you should have or want etc..

I received a few emails saying that this topic was really helpful and because I love talking about goals ~ I decided to share another tip:

Share and speak regularly about your dreams and goals with someone else.

Think about the past, was there ever a time when there was something that you really wanted but didn’t get? Did you end up dismissing the idea, dream or goal because it seemed unobtainable, silly or ridiculous?

What would have happened if you would have told someone about that dream? Well, try it today and find out. Here is an exercise I use in my coaching practice.

Think about something that you have always wanted in your life. I am talking really, really wanted – something that when you think about it, your heart beats faster and you smile.

Now write it out completely describing everything you see, feel, hear, taste, touch and smell and then choose someone to share it with – someone you can trust and ask them to simply listen.

Now describe to them the picture you have of your ideal mate, body, career, home or health. Use sensory descriptors – take them into the picture with you.

What you will find is that once these words escape your mouth they become more real and you see that new ideas and opportunities form because your dream is looking for ways to take form. AND because someone knows about your dream and goal – you are held more accountable!

Another reason to share with others is that, it is quite possible that the person you shared with will connect you with ideas, resources or people that will lead you further along in your journey. So please try it and share your dreams! :o)

In light of this topic: I would like to share my intention and dream with you ~ “My goal is to expand my business and reach more people, sharing inspirational and empowering information to help people align with their ideal lives and evolve toward their potential.”

Please help me by sharing with me your experience in a few sentences and whether the content in the Embrace Change Ezine or the Embrace Your Life Transition Blog has inspired or empowered you in any way.

I would like to post your words onto my website with the hope that your experience may inspire someone else along their journey and also to help me in meeting my goal of reaching more people in my work.

lf you are interested, please include your experience and if you would agree to let me post your name and city (and website if you have one) on my website as testimonial of the quality information that I share.

Thank you sincerely for your time and consideration of my request. Best wishes as you open yourself up and share your dreams with the world! Enjoy!!

Connecting Children

Connecting Children

“Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them.” ~ Richard L. Evans

In three days, I am returning to the Dominican Republic and am super excited!! Partly because the Canadian winter is harsh and I am ready to thaw but mostly because I can’t wait to see my students. I have volunteered for over a year teaching English at the top of a mountain in Santo Domingo.
Since being home in Canada, I have visited schools in the Windsor/Leamington area distributing over 300 letters written by these Dominican children. And this time when I return to the DR, I am bringing loads of letters written by some pretty wonderful children here in Canada (the letters above…) I want to say thank you to all of the teachers and children that have participated in this project in both countries.
Meeting and connecting the children through old fashioned letter writing has reinforced my belief that despite cultural and material differences in wealth – we are the same. We love our families, our pets, our friends, we like to laugh and play. Each group of children drew similar pictures, joked with each other and were excited about sharing their experiences with a new friend.
The intention of starting this pen pal program was to simply connect children, creating awareness of and to focus on our similarities despite where we live in the world. I am grateful for the new connections made and am so excited and inspired about continuing and developing other ideas for future programs.
It all starts with one idea 🙂 Follow Your Heart!!
Best wishes to you today!

Got the winter blues?

Got the winter blues?

It depends on where you live but if your winters are cold like mine are here in Canada, you are likely spending a lot more time indoors. And with the holidays here, there are more sweets and other temptations surrounding us and we all know that overindulging often leads to lethargy.

So combine lethargy with cabin fever and it could lead to disaster 🙂 Well maybe not disaster, but definitely more pounds and irritable mood swings.

It is understandable that with minus 30 degree celcius with the windchill weather outside that I wouldn’t want to explore the outdoors, but this morning I woke up and knew I needed to get moving! I was even annoying myself :)!

During the holidays, our routines are interrupted or stopped completely and the side effect of this change is often increased stress. So in order to best enjoy the holiday time with family and friends, assuming you have a healthy routine, try to maintain it as much as possible. Keep up your relaxational and stress management techniques or try new things like:

  • Starting the day off with some quiet inspirational reading and journalling
  • Yoga, stretching and meditation
  • Experiment with fun, healthy, fresh recipes
  • Visit with friends and family doing an activity other than eating 🙂
Any other ideas you can suggest would be welcomed!

Happy Holidays!

Kelly

Inspiration Surrounds Us!

Inspiration Surrounds Us!

Need a little inspiration or some advice?

Valuable wisdom surrounds us! Sit with your elderly relative or friend and record their story and extract their wisdom and lessons learned! I will post it here for all of us to benefit!

Let’s ask, listen and apply the wisdom gathered from people who have made it through so many life transitions!! Visit Inspiration Surrounds Us – Want to Participate? for more information.

My work is about helping people follow their hearts and act on their innate strength and wisdom when moving through life transitions toward their ideal life.

The intention of this project is to connect and bring families and friends together to talk, listen, share and then be inspired and spread the positive experience with others. It is a perfect Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday activity for families!

By posting this group’s wisdom and life stories to this blog, I hope to reach and help people who are looking for answers about how to deal with the challenges often faced in life.
